The 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar is an extremely comfortable ride both on and off-road. I had hoped to spend more time adventure touring this bike but family and work have kept me from the long trips. I've only taken the Dakar off-road once for a total of about 50 miles, not being a big dirt rider I don't have a basis for comparison but I can say the 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar handles as well off-road as it does on.
To prepare the bike for long rides I've made several upgrades that include numerous Touratech including:
- Foot peg relocation kit, provides larger platform for comfortable and stable off-road riding
- Low front fender to keep the road grime off
- Aluminum chain guard and wheel sensor cover, powder coated black
- Flexible mount turn signals, for on- and off-road riding
- Spoiler for the original BMW Dakar hand protectors
- Lockable oil filler cap, made of machined aluminum
- Aluminum luggage rack, perfect for strapping anything to the back of the Dakar
- License plate reinforcement
- Carbon fiber rear brake cylinder cover, provides protection from dirt and falls
- Rear storage compartment lock reinforcement
- Tail trunk reinforcement
- Heated hand grips, an awesome addition that will keep your riding year 'round
- Engine guard
- Center stand, great for storing the bike in your garage
- Expanding tank bag, the "tank" is plastic and typical tank bags won't work
- Low seat, drops seat height by one inch for us vertically challenged riders
- Two accessory power ports
All of these upgrades add to the adventure touring nature of this bike, providing secure, comfortable, on- and off-road riding enjoyment.
