Questions of Interest

I’ve received several questions regarding the 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar over the past couple of days and am going to post them here so others will have access to the same information.

Q1) What is the status of the title?

A1) The title is clear, i.e., in my name and with no lien.

Q2) Is it currently registered? If yes, until when?

A2) The registration is current through July 2008.

Q3) Does it need any immediate maintenance or repair?

A3) All maintenance is current and the Dakar is in great condition.

Q4) Are you available to show it in the evenings during the week or anytime on the weekends?

A4) I am happy to arrange a time to show the Dakar that is convenient for both parties, please contact me to schedule an appointment.

Q5) Does the Touratech peg relocation kit change the riding position?

A5) Yes, the kit moves the pegs down and back a little to make it easier to stand when off-road. The result is a riding position that is extremely comfortable when on-road and that allows for loading the pegs for optimal cornering.

Q6) What forms of payment will you accept?

A6) I will accept cash or cashiers checks from a bank, I will not accept personal checks or PayPal.

Q7) Why are you selling the 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar?

A7) To be honest I am contemplating a Harley Davidson Nightster. I know it is a bit cliche (okay a lot cliche) but I've reached the point in my riding where comfortable cruising is more important than a great handling bike.

I will update this list with additional questions as they are received. Thank you all for your interest.

Right Side View of the Dakar

In this view you can see that the bike is very clean and in excellent condition. Notice that the fuel filler is below the passenger seat. This keep the center of gravity low on the 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar and provides better handling on- and off-road. This model year also has the classic BMW M color scheme in the checkered flag graphics, a homage to the head design in the single cylinder Rotax engine.

Left Side View of the Dakar

Here's the left side view of the 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar where you can see, among other items, the Cee Bailey 17 inch windscreen and the original BMW engine guards. The bike is on the side stand but if you look carefully you can see the center stand tucked underneath.

My Asking Price

The asking price for this great bike with low mileage, valuable upgrades and outstanding gas mileage is $6,100 cash American.

About this 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar

The 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar is an extremely comfortable ride both on and off-road. I had hoped to spend more time adventure touring this bike but family and work have kept me from the long trips. I've only taken the Dakar off-road once for a total of about 50 miles, not being a big dirt rider I don't have a basis for comparison but I can say the 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar handles as well off-road as it does on.
To prepare the bike for long rides I've made several upgrades that include numerous Touratech including:

In addition to the awesome Touratech bits I've added the following items direct from BMW:
  • Heated hand grips, an awesome addition that will keep your riding year 'round
  • Engine guard
  • Center stand, great for storing the bike in your garage
  • Expanding tank bag, the "tank" is plastic and typical tank bags won't work
  • Low seat, drops seat height by one inch for us vertically challenged riders
  • Two accessory power ports
For taller riders the original 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar seat is included. Other upgrades include the Cee Bailey 17 inch windscreen, great for eliminating air turbulence around the rider, adjustable front brake lever, helmet locks and Hyper-Lites for maximum on-road visibility.
All of these upgrades add to the adventure touring nature of this bike, providing secure, comfortable, on- and off-road riding enjoyment.

2003 BMW F650GS Dakar

The Dakar poolside at Mike's Sky Ranch in Mexico. This was a great trip the really highlighted the BMW's on and off road abilities. This picture was taken before I upgraded to the Touratech Aluminum Chain Guard.

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar blog. This blog has one purpose, to provide potential buyers with current information on this amazing bike. The 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar is one of the most versatile bikes ever made, comfortable and capable on the roads with the suspension and power to continue your ride off the pavement. This is the top of the line for BMW's F650 models and this 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar includes ABS (which may be deactivated for off-road riding) and heated grips. Additionally, I've added several upgrades to make it even sweeter to ride (more about the upgrades in following blog posts). The Dakar has an unbelievably low 7,784 miles on the odometer. I purchased this bike two years ago thinking I'd have time to make some epic adventure rides but that hasn't been possible. I'm asking $6,100 for this beautiful 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar and considering the low mileage, excellent condition, and awesome upgrades this is a great opportunity to buy a motorcycle that provides unsurpassed freedom and regularly gets 60 miles per gallon or more! The rest of this blog will include detailed pictures of the bike, detailed descriptions of the upgrades, and answers to some of the questions I'm getting related to the bike. Enjoy, and let me know if you're interested in purchasing or have questions.
